Grandma's Bday week

This past wednesday was Z's grandma's bday. Grandma said she just wanted to celebrate with a small dinner with family at home, so Z and I went back to LA to see the grandparents.

Nice day at LA zoo

I've been singing this song to Z since she was born...now I finally know what a Kookaburra is!

Snow leopard babies!! I think they were 2-3 months old.

Meer cats playing

Grandma came with us to Ikea..Z likes the food there, they even have bibs for her.

Then on Saturday we went to the LA fair. I love fairs and hope Z will grow up to love them too! Here she was enjoying her favorite treat: ice cream.

She also caught a parade (and a few accessories.)

The three-arm baby is strong.

On Sunday Z and mommy went to the natural history museum. A little scary because it was in a rough neighborhood, but it was nice. The museum reminded me of the movie with Ben Stiller where everything in the museum comes alive at night. Overall I think I still prefer zoo: more fun looking at real animals than their stuffed, lifeless bodies! Z enjoyed the dinosaurs though.

1 year 0 months

Z was playing in our room while I was going in and out of the room putting stuff away. Z got up and walked up to me and said " Bao Bao (hold me!) " I happily obliged.

Z sitting in mommy's lap, looking up and gave a big kiss! I was pleasantly surprised and asked for another one. So Z kissed me again! Followed with a hug~

Z's first birthday weekend Part 1

Z's first bday was on Friday, so Z's dad and I planned a bday weekend to celebrate with the family. For her actual bday, Z hung out with mommy at home and went to dinner at CPK.

Mommy got a birthday hat for Z, but evidently she didn't like it

The Horror!

Finally! but that's no happy bday face

Z asked her best friend to step up and wear the hat...hahah that's no happy bday face either CoCo!

1st gifts

Z is going to turn 1 in a few weeks. Last night we went shopping at Toys-R-Us with the coupon we got for Z's birthday. I don't remember liking Toys-R-Us as a kid (maybe I did,) and naturally it wasn't my favorite store to shop at once I could afford anything there. I was pleasantly surprised how much fun we had at the store w/ Z (and how much having a child changes you! Me enjoying Toys-R-Us?!) There were so many things I want to get for her once she's a little older (legos, play kitchens, etc.) I guess although Amazon's super convenient it's always fun to be able to hold something in your hand and see it before buying it (instant gratification.)

We got her very 1st-first birthday present in the mail. From our core blood bank. How exciting!!

It's a book about baby's belly button! Hahaha!!

We ended up getting a few things for Z. When we got home even though it was her bed time I couldn't wait to show her one of our purchases-a mini stroller!

It's a mini version of Z's stroller-both made by Maclaren

Every time we go out with Z on her stroller we always end up with her pushing her own stroller. Same thing with her riding in a shopping cart, she always w
ants out so she can push the cart (maybe the next purchase? Where can I get a mini shopping cart??)

Z fits in the stroller too.

She loves pushing her Elmo around!

Hungry Hippo!

Z started crying mid dinner when she saw me eating watermelon...look at the tears!

The water work stop as soon as I gave her a piece

This went on for several minutes; everytime she finished one piece she would immediately start bawling, and all of sudden stop when she got a new piece of watermelon. Finally I gave a wedge and she immediately went to town!

Does watermelon need a spokesperson?? Z will gladly accept payments in watermelon!

07/25/09 Maddy laid her first egg!

Bailey checked out the 1st egg!

This Sat we went to the OC fair. We've been going for the last 3 years. I still remembered me waddling around the fair (@ 8 months pregnant) last year like it was last month......and this year we got to go with Z in our arms!
Z had fun at the fair except when she was hungry. Once we got her some avocado from a taco stand and a couple pretzel sticks, she was happy again. She specially loved the crowd, the noise, and all the flashing lights.
When we got home we were greeted by Maddy's first egg! We brought Maddy home after Z's easter photo shoot in April. She was the size of our palm, and now she's a woman! The next day she laid another egg so we fried the two eggs to have a taste. It was pretty good! Thanks Maddy!

Z's first long trip part II

Sweet potato

The minute we stepped out the airport, the door to the sauna room we would hang out for the next two weeks opened. Hot and humid. Nothing like baby Z ever experienced before. Welcome to mommy and daddy's childhood home town, mei mei.

Z only needed one night to adjust to the time difference. Thanks to her I had no problem adjusting either (I passed out every time my head touched a pillow.) As soon as we arrived at Apo's home, daddy's relatives started trickling in to see Z. It's always fun hearing them talking about Z's resemblance to her dad and how her daddy was like as a baby.

Following Apo to market

Since Z was already 6 months old and started to eat solids (somewhat) I let her try all the best Taiwan has to offer. Every morning when she got up Apo would already have that day's treats lined up for her. Some days we got up a little earlier, and we would go down to the market with Apo to pickup fresh fruits and veggies for Z. She pretty much loves everything we gave her-papaya (yum!) lan-wu, bananas (different from the ones we get in US, much sweeter and flavorful) guava (yes guava, we gave her the soft center part,) charcoal roasted sweet potato, oh and she also started eating asparagus in Taiwan! Who knew, a 8 month old baby can eat her way thru Taiwan too!
