Last month our beloved chicken Maddy died after the dogs opened her cage and got her. I was so shaken that I called Z's dad and he came home right away to comfort me and clean up. That afternoon as a consolation he took us to the store and picked up three lil' chicks. One was yellow, one brown and a really fancy one with feather on her feet. He took really good care of them and made sure he handled them everyday so they will turn out to be people friendly-just like Maddy. He even built them a really nice chicken coop. Well today the weather was nice so we decided to let them out in the coop. The chicks loved it-they got to play in the dirt and peck at everything....and then it happened again.....the dogs pushed opened the cage (which was really heavy) and got them!! I realized this when I went outside to check on them and only saw the coop opened with no chicks in sight...there were some feathers on the ground, but no chicks. I went inside the house, shaken (again) and woke Z's dad.....I felt really bad for him because I know he's really attached to these little guys. I only hoped that the chicks didn't suffer too much...and may they rest in heaven with Maddy and Gemma.
I'm still not sure if I should be mad at the dogs. I understand it's their instincts but they should really know better by now.
